Think Alice Springs and the first few things that come to mind are hot, desolate and arid. So it’s ironically surprising that this remote town in the middle of Australia can offer such a unique, challengin...
While the northern hemisphere plunges into winter, we're starting to enjoy the longer days and warmer temperatures. Like all changes in seasons, it's time to start thinking about your Summer riding gear.
We are a small group of riders who love nothing more than going on a ride. However, we all have different needs, personal preferences and opinions when it comes to clothing. We decided it would be best to each list a few of our favourite clothing items and why we love them.
I'm a big fan of the Fox Attack Shorts. They are nice and light and the material has a nice stretch to it so it's not constrictive, and they are the perfect length to run with knee pads without the dreaded 'Gaper Gap'. Normally I'm not the biggest fan of the liners included with MTB shorts and toss them straight up in favour of a 'real' cycling short but I've been pleasantly surprised by the chamois in these ones. I've even left them attached to the shell because I like them that much.
The Fox Indicator Short Sleeve Jersey is my go-to for most rides but especially those special rides that finish with plentiful 'liquid refreshments'. The cut and material is techy enough that I'm comfortable on the ride but casual enough that I don't look like a MAMIL before or after. It's like my favourite t-shirt and my favourite jersey rolled into one. I'm digging the looks of the new 2017.5 models too!
I'm a huge fan on TLD's Air Glove. the simple, no-frills design is not only ridiculously comfortable, but they've been the most durable gloves I've ever used. I still have a pair going strong after 3 years of heavy use! Hard to complain about that.
I've also been wearing the TLD Network Jersey a TON lately. Definitely more on the casual side of things, it's great for bike parks, short rides and shuttle runs. Extremely comfortable and perfect for around town use as well. If I was to critique anything, it wouldn't be the best for long, hot rides.
100%’s Airmatic Jersey is the lightest, most breathable jersey I’ve had the pleasure of riding in. It stays silky smooth and comfortable even when dripping in sweat during those hard summer days on the bike. Mesh panelling is deftly woven for the areas where it counts, and anti-microbial wicking keeps any nasty odours away.
To match, the Airmatic shorts are second to none. Smooth, stretchy fabric allows slippage past your saddle so it doesn’t get caught while getting off the back of the bike, and the legs don’t stick or grip while pedalling. The big mesh panel at the back allows for plenty of breathability when you’re slogging it up the hills. The big Velcro waist tabs pull tight, and actually stay attached firmly for us slimmer blokes.
Other items to consider:
It may seem counter-intuitive to wear sleeves on a hot day, but Climate Veil's cooling sleeves do just that! They pull away moisture which creates a cooling effect and they also provide UPF50+ sun protection. Easy to store in a pack, these are outstanding for anyone who lives under the hot sun!
