Dollars For Dirt - June 2017
Each month, we select three groups who are doing excellent things in MTB in Australia. We put $600 on the table, and we ask our customers to vote to decide who gets the funds. Each group gets at least $150, but the group with the highest votes at the end of the month scores $300!
Check out the groups for June 2017:
Noosa Trailblazers Mountain Bike Club (QLD)
"Noosa Trailblazers is a mountain bike club with 100 members based in Noosa Heads, QLD. The club, guided by president Damian McGarry, secured two grants from state and local government to update and cut new trails in Tewantin Forest (Wooroi Forest Reserve). Dirt Art and Trailworx completed the work and since then ridership has increased nearly six fold with more families and more out of area riders than ever before. Wooroi is now recognised as one of the leading mountain bike venues in south eastern Queensland and has been featured in Australian Mountain Bike magazine. The club will use the donation to build a cash co-payment to help support another grant application to further enhance the trail network in Wooroi."
Beechworth Chain Gang (VIC)
"The Beechworth Chain Gang Mountain Bike Club is based in Beechworth, North East Victoria, Australia. We are a small club that enjoys riding our bikes, maintaining our mtb park and dodging rocks. We recently started a junior ride program to get more kids interested in riding and improve their skills. The attendance of the program has doubled in the first year with some really good feedback from parents and the kids. We have a number of parents that help out but need to increase the number of MTBA accreditations (MTBA Level 0 Mtb Skills Coach) amongst our helpers. The money would be used to increase our ratios of MBTA coaching accredited helpers to ensure safety and better learning outcomes for the kids!"
Menai MTB park (NSW)
"Menai MTB park is located in Sydney in the Lucas heights conservation area. This area is managed by the Sutherland Shire council and all design, construction and maintenance is done by a group of dedicated volunteers on a monthly basis. There is currently 12km's of trail with a plan for another 8-10km's in the near future. The area is designed around "mill creek" with all trails linking into a small hub area at the lowest point of the creek crossing. Menai MTB park tries to cater for all riding abilities and offers technical style trails built on the local sandstone features with some flowier style trails mixed in. The trails in the park are the only purpose built MTB trails in the area and are the best all weather trails in Sydney. The $300 would be spent on either equipment hire or materials to install some bridges for creek crossings. We operate on a very small budget and $300 would go a long way"
Menai mtb parkBy: Tony on 11 June 2017I help out when I can , and it's a great area that just needs some more help on trail maintenance days and a win here would be be so beneficial for the hard working team
Menai is the placeBy: Cam Sutton on 3 June 2017The commitment of volunteers over a number of years at Menai deserves commendation. The building crew have done a great job to move through the various sections and build some rad all mountain and flow sections. The constant updating of the trail to make sure no one section gets eroded out also deserves to be mentioned as rain runoff appears to be part of the trail design. Awesome job Menai trail builders.
Beechworth Chain GangBy: Matthew Cameron on 3 June 2017I spent all of last week staying and riding in Beechworth, this place is mountain bike heaven. All the tracks there are created and maintained by this club and let me tell you they are awesome. They deserve the dollars for dirt as this is a great idea to the kids involved they are the future of our sport, give them the money!
