Dollars For Dirt - July 2017

Dollars For Dirt

Each month, we select three groups who are doing excellent things in MTB in Australia. We put $600 on the table, and we ask our customers to vote to decide who gets the funds. Each group gets at least $150, but the group with the highest votes at the end of the month scores $300!

Gippsland MTB (VIC)
http://www.gippslandmtb.com.au

"We actively engage with land holders in the Gippsland region to formalise MTB trails in this overlooked area of Victoria. When we formed in 2008 there were no formal MTB trails in the region, while in 2016 we were up to 7 designated MTB parks and currently have a number of others that are getting close. The club funds most of its activities through running events on our trails and prides itself in putting this back into the trails or purchasing equipment to make the events bigger and better. We also offer a yearly sponsorship of a younger rider to assist them in their riding activities. This was put in place after the tragic loss of one of our up and coming riders. The goal is to make Gippsland a mecca for MTB riding and has some grand plans in the works that will lead us to achieving this. If you have not ridden any Gippsland trails, then plan a road trip and come and see what you are missing. Feel free to contact the club if you want any information on the trails in the region. We currently require trail counters to assist with recording accurate usage data. Land managers in our area are keen to see this information to see the positive impact from expanding the trail networks on usage levels. At the moment we run a voluntary sign in book however most of the riders do not appear to use this system to record their visits, eg: car park is full but there are very few names in the book. With these trail stats we would be able to quote accurate usage numbers and gain support to further expand the existing trails with the local land managers."

Mountain Biking Bundaberg (QLD)
http://mountainbikingbundaberg.com.au

"Mountain Biking Bundaberg is a small, friendly club with some great trails in the Cordalba State Forrest. The trails are always requiring maintainance and upkeep, and we also focus on planning and creating new tracks. The Dollars for Dirt donation would assist with financial stability for the club and funding for track building and maintainance"

Darwin Off Road Cyclist - DORC (NT)
http://www.dorc.com.au/

"DORC are a growing social mountain bike club based in Darwin in the Northern Territory, we hold on average a race a month during our wonderful dry season and plenty of social rides in between catering for all skill levels and woman only rides, recently one of our members achieved both his MTBA level 2 coaching and Pimba coaching acceditation and we are currently offering 6 week MTB training courses which are being well received. As Darwin and it's immediate surrounds are somewhat vertically challenged we make do with some technical trails and what elevation we have, but we are always having fun. Our Wet season is pretty brutal and most of our trails are covered by grass up to 2-3mtrs high and very thick and the money would go towards getting tools to enable us to clear our trails"
