Think Alice Springs and the first few things that come to mind are hot, desolate and arid. So it’s ironically surprising that this remote town in the middle of Australia can offer such a unique, challengin...
We are a group of Volunteer Coaches, Parents and junior Mountain Bikers that come together weekly at the Douglas Mountain Bike Reserve. We train, go on social rides, maintain and build trails, and attend local mountain bike events and races. But above all we have FUN!!! Rockwheelers Townsville is our club, and we have steadily grown from 7 riders to 80 juniors! We have trained many coaches through MTBA and are the envy of many clubs Australia wide. Our club is strong thanks to our volunteers. Our adopt a trail program means we have many people willing to help maintain our network and teaching the kids to take ownership means our future is strong! What a great place for kids to build confidence and life skills. We would put this money towards buying some equipment for the juniors to help improve their skills. We have trails and some cool features donated by our club and some local business', but would love to buy some things like cones and markers and extra equipment to teach skills off the normal trail environment.
Our local MTB club is based in Beautiful Port Macquarie, on the NSW East Coast. We have a healthy 'Dirtmasters' group of kids who are coached by volunteer coaches from within the club. Recently we have commissioned Gary Patterson from Trailscapes Pty Ltd. to design a Pump Track which is nearing completion. Our group would very much like a donation to assist our club to pay for signage for our new Pump Track located in Wayne Richards Park in Port Macquarie. Wayne Richards Park is used by the Public, and having signage directing people to the Pump Track and signage to advise the Public the 'Rules' of the Pump Track would be great!
The Club M.U.D philosophy is Keep'n small, Keep'n real, however providing opportunity and growing Down Hill Mountain Biking. The club runs its own mini series, the 'King of Ballarat', a local bike club event which is run in conjunction with the City of Ballarat. The event sees riders and spectators come to Ballarat to participate throughout the three rounds racing in a cold Ballarat winter. We had over 100 riders at each event who travel from across Victoria and even interstate to participate in this gravity bike event. We run a $10 Wednesday night shuttle series with three buses and a minimum of 25 riders. The club is about to embark on a new initiative called 'Mini Muddies', a down hill race for those up-and-coming riders aged 16 years and under (U16, U12 & U8). The Club also organises ride days and also affordable accommodation for those riders participating in the Victorian Down Hill Series. If we obtained a donation it would go towards the running of the 'Mini Muddies' and pay for our Medics. The Club has made a consensus decision to make the event affordable to all riders. This means running at a loss, so any support is appreciated!
