Experience the benefits of oval chainrings!
Oval rings have made a resurgence within the past few years and for good reason! Oval designs allow you put more consistent power to the ground rather than surging. If you are climbing technical terrain, you will notice the difference and the better traction that comes with smoother power. If you are converting to 1x or replacing a ring, be sure to consider this oval ring from Wolf Tooth.
- 416 Series Stainless Steel.
- Narrow/wide tooth profile.
- Compatible with all 104 BCD cranks.
- Compatible with M8 chainring bolts (no nuts required).
- Compatible with 9, 10, 11, and 12-speed chains.
- 32T (90g)
Please note: Riders with 9-speed drivetrains should upgrade to a 10-speed chain. A 10-speed chain with still shift great and will perform better with the Drop-Stop ring.
Get better traction and acceleration when you use our Elliptical (or Oval, same thing) rings!
Our proprietary design has ovality of 10% and timing of 112° after TDC (top dead center). These values provide the benefits of an oval ring without the drawbacks of greater ovality or more aggressive timing.
The simplest way to explain how they "feel" is that where your pedal stroke is weakest it feels like you have a 2 teeth less on the chainring and where you have the most power it feels like you have 2 more teeth. They feel this way because with the radius of the chainring constantly changing, the torque needed to turn the cranks is constantly changing to better match your power output. Example: a 34t chainring feels like a 32t in the weak part of your pedal stroke and a 36t in the part of the stroke where your legs have the most power.
416 stainless steel is not the first material choice for most component manufacturers looking to use stainless steel (most use soft 300 series). That is because 416 is hard...hard because the raw billet is expensive, hard because it takes a long time to machine. However, that did not stop Wolf Tooth because there is no denying that it is the best material for those that need the ultimate durability in a chainring. These stainless steel chainrings are not only beautiful, but they will last 5-10 times longer than their aluminum versions.
This are functionally the same as the aluminum 104 BCD rings.
These rings fit any 104 BCD crankset, and here are instructions on how to measure your BCD.
For 1x9, 1x10, 1x11 and 1x12 drivetrains (including SRAM Eagle)
Compatible with all 10, 11, and 12 speed chains (Including SRAM Eagle)
If using a 9 speed drivetrain use a 10 speed chain (shifts and works well on a 9 speed drivetrain and fits the ring tighter for better chain retention).
Design and manufactured in Minneapolis, MN USA
Wolf Tooth’s patented Drop-Stop® wide/narrow tooth profile for the ultimate chain retention and mud shedding ability
Recommend the use of a clutch style rear derailleur for the best chain security.
Made from hardened and electropolished 416 stainless steel
Will last 5-10x longer (or even more) than our 7075 Aluminum chainrings
Colors - raw SST
Chainline (approximate as BB centering and cranksets vary)
32t - 48mm on 3x cranksets and 49mm on 2x
If you plan to ride in very muddy conditions, we recommend a chainguide or chainkeeper in addition to a clutch-type rear derailleur! Without these precautions, you may experience chaindrops and/or chainsuck.
